1. What is the Pooler Pickleball League?

  • The Pooler Pickleball League is a competitive yet friendly league where players of various skill levels come together to play and compete in Pickleball matches.

2. How do I join the league?

3. Do you need to have a partner to register?

  • Yes, every player must have a partner to play. You will be asked to give your partners FULL name at registration.
  • If you register, and your other partner does not, your pairing could be dropped due to limited spacing.

4. Does both partners have to pay/register?

  • Yes, both partners must pay to play. You will register as an individual but play as a doubles pairing.

5. Can my partner be a man or a woman?

  • Yes, we are offering men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles.

6. What skill level do I need to participate?

  • We welcome players of all skill levels! Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced player, there is a division suited for you. We offer two separate divisions, a recreational and a competitive division. This ensures that players are matched with opponents of similar abilities and allows for fair and balanced competition.
  •  If you’re unsure of your skill level, we’ve provided a guide with questions to help you assess where you stand
  • Recreational Division: Beginners and Intermediate Players (3.5 rated and Below)
  • Competitive Division: Advanced Players (4.0 rated and above)
  • Player Eligibility: MUST BE 18+ TO COMPETE

7. How are the teams formed?

  • Team Leagues: In this setup, double pairings are randomized into teams to compete against one another, promoting camaraderie and collaboration while enhancing the enjoyment of the game.
  • Every double pairing will be randomly put on a team with the size based off of the number of participants.
  • The score will be an overall team score based off match play.
  • Every team will designate a team captain. It is up to the team captain to take/turn in scores and communicate with team members if they will not be in attendance for league play.

8. When are the matches played?

  • All matches are played at the Pooler Recreation Pickleball Courts located at 200 Preston Stokes Dr.
  • Matches are scheduled once a week, with the schedule announced before the season starts. Games start at 6p. The Spring League is set to start the first week of March.
  • Recreation Division plays Monday nights from 6:00 to 8:00 pm
  • Competitive Division plays Wednesday nights from 6:00 to 8:00 pm
  • Leagues have designated match schedules, outlining when and location of courts to be played. Players are expected to honor these schedules and arrive on time for their matches. Please arrive early, ensuring enough time to stretch and warm up.

9. What happens if I can’t make it to a game?

  • If signing up for the league, we recommend that you be in attendance to most weeks. However, we understand that injuries, work, and travel may impact your schedule.
  • Everyone will be scheduled to play with your partner that you registered with throughout the entire league. However, in the event that one or both teammates cannot make it, you are allowed to use any of your other teammates to be your partner and make a substitution.
  • At least 4 players from every team must show up weekly or it will result in a forfeit.

10. How are the matches scored?

  • Every team will play three matches per night.
  • Matches will be best 2 out of 3 games. Games will be played first to 11 points win.
  • Every team will get the opportunity to play every team represented in the league.
  • Teams compete against each other, earning points based on their match outcomes.
  • These points contribute to team rankings and determine playoff standings.
  • The end of season playoff/tournament will start after the regular season ends.
  • Win-loss record: This league is determined by team rankings based on win-loss records. Teams with the higher number of wins will be ranked higher than those with more losses.
  • Game Win: 1 point will be awarded for each game won by the team.
  • Game Loss: No points will be awarded for games lost.
  • Each week, each team plays 3 matches, so the maximum points a team can earn in a week is 6 points (if they win all their matches 2-0)
  • Total possible points in a season: 6 points per week x 8 weeks = 48 points per team.
  • At the end of the league season, teams will be ranked by the total points earned.
  • In the event of a tie, we will compare head-to-head record of the teams tied when playing one another.

12. Can I play in multiple divisions?

  • No, you can only register for one division and play one night per week.

 14. Do I need to bring my own equipment?

  • Yes, players are expected to bring their own paddles and appropriate athletic wear.
  • Teams should ensure they bring the required number of X-40 Franklin outdoor pickleballs  to the game. This rule helps ensure that every team is playing with the same type of ball, it prevents discrepancies in performance between different types of balls.

  • Rain: If it starts raining heavily, matches are typically suspended.
  • Lightning/Thunder: If the lightening detector sounds, matches will be stopped immediately, and players should seek shelter. The Pooler Recreation Department requires waiting until the detector gives an “all-clear” before resuming play.
  • Scoring During Weather Interruptions:
  • Paused Match: If the match is stopped and conditions improve, the game will resume from where it left off, maintaining the current score and serving order.
  • Rescheduling: If a match cannot resume due to prolonged weather conditions, it will be rescheduled or decided based on the current score at the time of interruption.
  • Games must make it halfway, to 6 points, for it to be considered a full game.
